The Department of Puppetry of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava was founded in the Theatre Faculty in 1989. The objective of the Department is education and training of students to prepare them for their professional career in the field of puppet and material theatre and related arts. Students get skills as puppeteers, actors, performers, scene designers, technologists of puppets, directors and dramaturges. The Academy develops their creativity and imagination as well. The goal of the Department is a variety of creative approaches and methods using in contemporary puppet theatre, material theatre and related arts. This creates a space for many different interdisciplinary projects. The study programme includes the complete preparing of students in the field of acting, acting with puppets, directing, dramaturgy, scene design, puppetry design and technology (the building) of puppets in three higher education degrees: The bachelor´s (6 semesters), the master´s (4 semesters) and the doctoral´s (6 semesters). The Department of Puppetry manages an extensive international cooperation through ERASMUS+ programme of EU and bilateral agreements with universities and partners within and outside Europe. The department participated in the common project EU KA2 Strategic partnership “Three Layers of telling a Story“ all together with four Central Europeanuniversities (University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, Theatre Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Warsaw, Branch Campus in Bialystok. The Department of Puppetry took part in the project of the Slovak National Museum – The Museum of Puppets and Toys in Modrý Kamen, supported by Norway Funds.
