In 1890, Count Tibor Károlyi bought the estate of Modrý Kameň for his daughter (according to the testimony of András Pongrácz, direct descendant of Countess Gabriela Almássy, who lives in Budapest and visited the castle of Modrý Kameň in October 2015). Gabriela Almássy owned the castle estate and the surrounding lands until 1924. For the family, the castle of Modrý Kameň was more of a summer residence; throughout the year it was managed by an administrator and the servants. In 1919, during the short period of the Hungarian Republic of Councils, the violent actions also affected the Countess’s property. After the sudden departure of the Countess with her family to Budapest, the rebellious local people broke into the manor. The servants engaged in looting as well. Since then, Countess Almássy has visited the castle of Modrý Kameň only rarely, especially after it was occupied by the Czech military garrison, the mission of which was to supervise the order on the nearby Slovak – Hungarian border after the declaration of the independent Czechoslovak Republic in 1918. In 1924, Countess Almássy sold the entire property to the Czechoslovak State. | ||
